Product Description

CD Description
MYRRH was originally released in 1972, when Robin Williamson was at the time still a member of the Incredible String Band, the ensemble he started with Mike Heron in 1966. These ten songs are all Williamson originals, with the exception of"Strings In The Earth And Air" by Ivan Pawle.
Where his band's recordings were then getting increasingly electric, this is a return to a more acoustic bearing. This set includes some gorgeous, if overlooked, songs from the vast catalogue Williamson has created. "Will We Open The Heavens" features a fragile guitar line accompanied by a contrasting backdrop of strings, flute, bass, and piano. His poetic sensibilities are in fine form, drawing on both the traditions and loreof his native British Isles, as well as the communal spiritof the era. This album contains all of the elements Williamson would continue to explore over the decades to follow.

5.0 out of 5 stars Williamson's greatest hour, 8 Mar 2001
While best known for his work with the Incredible String Band, his first solo work, Myrrh, contains some of his finest material.

Myrrh was my first contact with the ISB. I didn't like it at all - it was not accessible. Years later, I have grown to love it. The songs are mystical and celtic. The music is spiritual, moving and profound.

Williamson seems to be a unique artist - and for those who like his more serious side, "Cold Harbour", "I see Us All Get Home", "Through the Horned Clouds", "Will We Open The Heavens" and "Dark Eyed Lady" are all unforgettable.

I like many have a very old and worn copy of this gem. Robin in his String band period, singing and playing even more magic and wondereous stories. There is something very endearing about this album some very personilized pieces that take you on a journey, well worth the price of admission. If you love the string band don't hesitate with this release or if you are just a fan of Robins this is a must have in the jigsaw. Also BGO have done a wonderful job in remastering and re packaging here. It comes in a slip case very faithfully reproduces and extensive sleeve notes which make facinating reading. Also check out their release of Be glad/Liquid acrobat, incredibles it has had the same treatment. Totally recomended

4.0 out of 5 stars One of the classic folk albums of the 70s, 1 Mar 2000
By A Customer
The few people who have heard this album fall into two camps - they hate it or they love it. Perhaps it appeals to the hopelessly romantic, because Robin Williamson's work is often inclined to poetic fantasy, and in this album he has not restrained that inclination. I was first struck by the poetic lyrics, and then by the range of instruments Robin plays, but I have never tired of the music. One of my all-time favourites, and not easily classified into a particular genre.
