Product Description

CD Description

On THE DIARY, rapper Scarface creates a powerful, almost operatic progression of characters, portraying the different roles as they derive from the rapper's own persona. So he speaks either as Scarface or as Brad Jordan (his real name), asthe cold-blooded gangsta or as a shrewd, compassionate observer of the mean streets of warring colours, doomed youth and innocents caught in the crossfire.
THE DIARY is a graphic, powerful, unwavering look at the day to day violence that has become brutally commonplace for far too many urban citizens, as underscored by the romantic strings, martial rhythm parts and automatic gunfire of "Intro", and the funky kill-or-be-killed braggadocio of "The White Sheet", a gangsta anthem with a series of menacing, deadly hooks.
Scarface anticipates all the usual criticism such a hard-edged approachwould engender. He responds to such acrimony with indignation of his own on "Hand Of The Dead Body" (with Ice Cube). But a more telling response comes on "Mind Playin' Tricks", where Scarface delineates his own simple aspirations for family and self, and on the poignant, chilling "I Seen A Man Die", where he underscores a litany of tragedy and death by observing that "I never seen a man cry until I seen a man die...If you ain't at peace with God you need to patch it up...Here lies a man who ain't scared to die, may he rest in peace."..

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite Simply- Awesome, 22 Sep 2005
By G. J. Shanks "DJ Max-Ray" (Hampshire, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I agree with pretty much all that has been written below. What a classic! Face is at his best when he exposes the darker and more sinister aspects of his soul (He has'nt hesitated to inform us that he was sectioned as a teenager, and had a pretty tough time of it). 'White Sheet' and 'Jesse James' are damn near perfect. 'Mind Playing Tricks' is an outstanding reworking of his GB classic on 'We Can't Be Stopped'. And 'Hand Of The Dead Body' contains an excellent verse from Cube. The production is tight throughout and the vibe of the album just sounds so good. My only criticism is the album feels a bit short. Saying that, you'll never get bored of it. For all those who are just discovering the ability of Mr Face- this is the album that you must own. You won't be disappointed and you might just put down those G-Unit offerings. Go get it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Scarface - The Diary, 10 Oct 2004
This album is simply brilliant, and in my personal opinion, Face's best work to date.

The fantastic production matched with Scarface's lyrical talent and flow make this one of my favourite albums of all time. There is NO filler, and I can easily listen to this CD without skipping a track. My favourite song from the album is "Hand Of The Dead Body" featuring Ice Cube (the albums only guest appearence), followed by "I Seen A Man Die".

The album recieved 5 mics in The Source, and I feel that this accolade was well deserved.

YOU MUST buy this album!

3.0 out of 5 stars A good album, but room for improvment.
I enjoy this album, but it feels as if something is missing from it. The lyrics could be better, and the backbeats are reasonable, but he fails to deliver his full potential.
