The violin concerto is interpreted distinctively, particularly in the third movement. The first and second movements are delivered with the technical excellence that you would expect from Gidon Kremer, and with warmth and feeling. The initial impression of the third movement is that it lacks pace - for those used to the more usual speed adopted by Menuhin, Kullenkampf and Szeryng this may be too slow, but Kremer adopts Schumann's tempo setting and thereby renders the triplet work and runs with a clarity that is often missed in a faster interpretation. Kremer's technical grasp of this beautiful concerto and the resonance of his playing help make this a fine coupling, and one to be recommended. The piano concerto is a first rate performance - it is well paced, and delivered with sensitivity and passion. Argerich adoptes a classical interpretation to the concerto, and it is delivered with clarity and assurance. Her playing in the second movement is of particular note, and the listener is impelled to sit back and revel in the beauty of the piece.
