This album brings together some of the most talented women prominent in Irish music today. The Black sisters are eminent in this album, but there are also some well less known talents such as Eleanor McEvoy, whose voice is soulful and inspiring. Every track is a winner for those enjoy emotional folk with intelligent lyrics.

I was too embarrassed to give it. I had hoped that this album would make a good introduction to Irish women artists. With the exception of the Sharon Shannon tracks, the whole thing is a big disappointment. The choice of songs represent the MOR side of the artiste's repertoires - the songs are of whistfulness and longing - broken relationships and not much else. Volume 2 looks a bit more promising - it seems you will soon be able to buy Volume 1&2 as a job lot. If you really want this album I would save your money for the double.
