CD Description

After the wonderful success of WORLD OUT OF TIME in 1992, the following year brought forth this second set of recordings. Musical explorers Henry Kaiser (guitarist) and David Lindley (multi-instrumentalist) made a trip to the island nationof Madagascar in the early nineties. Their two weeks of recording resulted in a total of five CDs, all essential glimpses into the musical heart of the Malagasy people. This second volume again encompasses everything from traditional acoustic instruments to bracingly electric guitars, basses and keyboards. Some of the performers were already popular recordings artists in their homeland -- Rossy is the nation's biggest roots-pop star. As with the previous release, Kaiser and Lindley both played with the island musicians as well as having them collaborate amongst themselves. The aforementioned Rossy and his band are joined by, Rakoto Frah, the island's 72-year-old master of the Sodona (a Malagasy flute). In all its varieties, this is warmly inviting music.

a wonderful compilation of the music of madagascar which has been sensitively brought together by the woefully underrated team of David Lindley and Henry Kaiser. Lindley and Kaiser have done the same essential job that Ry Cooder did for the Cuban musicians on the Buena vista Social club. They have introduced us to a unique range of music untouched by western influences and they have also played and contributed to mentor this music for our delight and appreciation. lovely!
