This CD is a wonderful example of all that is great about British music.The performance by the London Symphony Orchestra of these wonderfully spellbinding orchestral pieces by the greatest of all British composers is outstanding. Bryden Thomson takes the orchestra through these great works with marvellous skill and a passion for the music.
The sound is spectacular as one would expect from a Chandos recording and the orchestra sound is bright and well balanced.
The Symphony No 8 in D Minor is a great example of the skill of the composer and to me is one of his greatest works.
You are in for a real treat with the Partita for Double String Orchestra,the richness of the writing is sublime and full of melody with many underlying themes which you may recognise from other works by the composer.
This is a marvellous CD with a well balanced programme - Vaughan Williams at his best!
