5.0 out of 5 stars still the best live punk album, 17 Oct 2007
By Stefano Galli (italy) - See all my reviews

Unfortunately the other reviewer got the wrong album: he wrote about the second one.
I don't think the original needs much presentation, but let just say you should buy it for the sleeve and booklet (which on the vinyl copies was the inner sleeve) alone, then have a look at the tracking list and you know you cannot be wrong.
A classic in every sense which enabled you to listen to the other bands (that is apart from Sex Pistols, The Clash, The Damned and The Stranglers) The only flaw, was that missing are Siouxsie and the Banshees.

3.0 out of 5 stars A rare helping of some second-string new-wavers, 31 Dec 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: Live at the Roxy (Audio CD)
My old vinyl copy of this album had long since disappeared, probably in the early 90's when the whole punk scene seemed too long ago to be valid. I originally bought the album purely for the Bears' track, they being my local (and favourite) band. It was a great surprise to see it available again after so many years and an even bigger surprise to hear the excellent re-mastering job. UK Subs remain the only immediately recognisable name on this compilation of bands who played the Roxy in it's latter days and in truth, the excitement of the first Roxy album is missing. However, the spirit of new wave was that everyone should get a chance and this collection is a testament to that spirit. Billy Karloff's 'relics from the past' remains the strongest track on the compilation. However, by the time these gigs took place, punk had already begun its degeneration into self-parody and several of the other bands sound like they are just trying too hard to be 'nasty'. The Bears, however, never fell into that trap and their track 'fun, fun, fun' is just that.
Mostly, this lot have managed to withstand the passage of more than 2 decades and the album's
sound quality is a testament to modern technology. Well worth a listen and a suitable post-script to the era that most people agree, ended with the closing of the Roxy.
