5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, 28 Nov 2004
By Louise Thums "Louise" (France) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: The Deans Watch (Paperback)
Having read this book at least 10 times, 3 of which were out of dire necessity, I can honestly say that it ranks as one of the most beautiful books ever written. There is no particular reason why this should be so, just read it to see why.
I was stuck in Bujumbura in Burundi for 10 days last year and had to read this over and over again because I was in a situation where nothing else was available. I know some of the text by heart but even so I still love it. I can't recommend it highly enough.

4.0 out of 5 stars Gentle Escapism, 23 July 2002
By A Customer
This review is from: Dean's Watch (Paperback)
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's a gentle, historic novel that manages to avoid being slushy and sentimental. The Dean of a cathedral city and a clockmaker develop a friendship which changes both their lives and those of the people around them. The author evidently has a great love of people, nature and the history of the church in Britain and these come together to tell a fascinating story of love in all its forms. A little old fashioned in parts, it was a refreshing break from the bleak "gritty" or superficial "frothy" novels of today. I would recomend this book very highly.

4.0 out of 5 stars The Dean's Watch, 11 April 2009
This review is from: Dean's Watch (Paperback)
I read this book many (many) years ago at school as part of my English Lit O level so I was pleased to find it and re read it. A great story, would make a good film or mini-series on TV.
