This book is a masterful and extremely thorough account of the history of the fortifications of the Knights Hospitaller, with and extraordinarily detailed gazeteer of all their fortifications from the early days of the Crusades in the holy land to their demise on Malta at the hands of Bonaparte.
Castle and fortress fanatics everywhere will find this a book they can't put down. Superbly illustrated, and with access to original source references rarely noted outwith Malta, Spiteri has created a fantastic reference manual on all things Hospitaller.
I bought my paperback whilst on holiday on the island just after publication, and recommended it to many, but formerly it was extremely difficult to attain outwith the island.
