This guide was our bible during our stay in Burgundy this year. The information section at the beginning which covers history and culture was fascinating pre-visit reading to whet the appetite and give a feel for the area, as was the absolutely stunning photography. When we were actually on site using the book, the small maps in each section gave us a much clearer idea of how much we could cover in a day than, say, the road atlas, and the town plans were clear and practical. The write-ups on places were intelligent and informative without being patronising and often gave snippets that even the local guides had not included. Advice on where to go and where to eat/buy wine/gifts was useful and the language section at the back, particularly with regard to menus and restaurants was invaluable at times! If all the Insight Guides are as good as this one, I'll be starting a collection.
