This is the most interesting and easily read book I have come across dealing with issues of economic and political development. Thai politics and economics are complex and confusing for (us) foreigners. This book makes sense of the conflicting strains in Thailand and will enable even a novice to understand reporting in Thai newspapers. Fascinating for anyone interested in global economics or Thai culture. The best of the excellent series of books by Pasuk Phongpaichit.

An extremely interesting and entertaining book which deals with Thailand's recent boom and bust in an informal but informative manner. A wide range of issues is deftly and expertly covered, from the political economy to current social issues including even Thai country music! For myself, a Thai, this book was very useful for me to develop a greater understanding of my country in areas which are not normally covered in standard textbooks. I would strongly recommend it to not just Thais but to also anyone else who has an interest in Thailand as a country and Thais as a people.
