4.0 out of 5 stars I like this book., 26 Oct 2004
By Ned Middleton (British professional underwater photo-journalist & author.) - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)
Yes, there are errors. These authors are widely regarded as having first published the erroneous name "Sarah H" for the shipwreck now known to be the Kingston.

Under "Acknowledgements" on P.7, Sarah Hillel is mentioned as the dive guide on the Sea Surveyor - the boat from which the authors worked in their quest to produce this guide book and other works. Apparently, it was toward the end of many weeks of diving and exploration that they happened upon the Kingston - a British collier which hit Shag Rock and sank in 1881. Being a brand new discovery, nobody knew the true identity of the wreck. The story goes, however, one of the crew claimed it was called the "Sarah H" and the authors accepted this name without ever realising it was a direct reference to their own dive guide.

Even today (September 2004) one leading UK scuba diving magazine has published a map of dive sites in which it still calls this wreck by that same erroneous name.

Elsewhere, the excellent sketch of the Kimon M is shown as the Chrisoula K - but!, leaving these errors to one side, this is still an excellent guide book and one of the best available for the Egyptian Red Sea.

In addition to some first class illustrations of certain wrecks, the authors have also produced some outstanding pictures in which they have skilfully combined aerial photographs of certain reefs with their own artistic portrayal of what lies below the surface - complete with more pictures of wrecks.

Whilst this book is entitled Volume 2, I have never seen other volumes in the same series and would very much like to see them.
