The first part of Syntax of the Modern Greek Verbal System (second thoroughly revised edition) deals with the grammatical categrories of verbs (voice, aspect etc.) and the use of each verbal form (eyiu, eyou, Yeoia, Yeooa, imperatives etc.). The second part deals in detail with the functions of the particles ea, ao and especially oa. Two brief final chapters cover indirect speech and the use of the negatives. Throughout the book the material is supported by numerous examples from literary authors and current linguistic practice, taken in part from a large database. Target group: advanced learners and scholars. Rolf Hesse (born 1938) is a Danish authorised translator of Modern Greek and lecturer at the University of Lund (Sweden). He studied classical and German philology in Copenhagen, and Modern Greek in Paris and Thessaloniki. He is the author of a Danish-Greek and a Greek-Danish dictionary (1995 and 1998/2003). He has dealt with a wide range of grammatical and lexicographical issues in theory and in practice.
