5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional,scary & tottally gripping, 9 Oct 2000
By concreteken@hotmail.com (Peterborough, England) - See all my reviews
This is with out doubt the best book I have or ever will read - the story centres on a group of seven kids known as the 'losers', King goes into each charchter so well that you feel as if you have known them all your life by the end of the book. There plight in the story is to conker all there own worst nightmares and fears, in the form of Pennywise the clown, that haunted them when they were kids and has now, 27 years later come back to Derry again. Due to a pact that was made 27 years earlier the friends must all return from their various walks of life and confront Pennywise again. Because of the great depth with which King shells out each charachter and the spine tingling Pennywise this is with out doubt a horror classic.

5.0 out of 5 stars A compelling read from beginning to end, 20 Dec 1999
By A Customer
The book, which is ultimately King getting a lot of stuff finally of his chest, begins with a cold, yet compelling, atrocity: 'The terror, which would not end for anothe twenty-eight years - if it ever did end - began, so far as i know or can tell, with a boat made from a sheet of newspaper floating down a gutter swollen with rain.' How many novels can you think of that light the path for you in such a seductive way? This book is second only to 'The Stand' and, if you aren't detered by its length (1100 words) this will give you a well deserved break from the world...as you yourself are drawn into the haunting fabric of Derry, Maine.
