In bondage to a landlord, Shortie's life is one of hard physical labour and cruel persecution. Caught between this oppressive working life and his rich, layered dream world, Shortie struggles with himself in an effort to escape his circumstances. Vivid in its re-creation of a harsh, haunting landscape, Seasons of the Palm is a relentless and compelling novel.

About the Author
Perumal Murugan is a well-known contemporary Tamil writer whose strong work has won great praise from critics and readers. His writing focuses on lives lived on the margins of society, both rural and urban. He has written three novels and a number of short stories and poems, several of which have been translated into English.
