Product Description
Book Description
U.V. Ray was born in Birmingham, England in 1967. He attended the Blue Coat School, but after dropping out of the "indoctrination system" at the age of 15 without any qualifications, he embarked on a life of hedonistic excess; spending the next 17 years of his life drifting around back street bars and nightclubs, surrounding himself with a colourful array of oddball characters and misfits. His life became a catalogue of bar room brawls, smashed up cars and trashed hotel rooms, with a little bit of writing in between. Most of his work during this tumultuous period was scribbled on beer mats and cigarette packets and has almost certainly been lost for all time. In 1993, U.V. Ray began taking his writing more seriously and he started submitting work to underground literature magazines. He had his first poem published in the Cambridgeshire magazine, Candelabrum, in 1995. The Blood In My Veins is a collection of some of his published works which were written over the!
subsequent decade. He lives and writes in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire.

From the Inside Flap
The Blood In My Veins is about preserving moments in time. U.V.RAY wrote the poems in this book while on the move; in hotel rooms, train stations, coffee shops and bars. His penchant for breaking poetry down to its bare minimum documents an otherwise forgotten moment with primitive emotional vigour - which also adds dimension in the process.

This collection reads like a book of snapshots - which alongside poems for Marilyn Monroe, Monica Bellucci and Brigitte Bardot - speak with a deceptive simplicity, often expressing in just one sentence what many others might struggle to say in a whole lifetime.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, some poetry worthy of praise!!!, 20 Feb 2006
By Justin Price (North East Ohio) - See all my reviews
Firstly, I'm not a big fan of most poetry.
I often find it to be bland, pretentious, and trite, with little to offer in the way creativity and substance.
NOT SO WITH U.V. RAY's WORK!!!

"The Blood in My Veins" is an outstanding work of creative poetry. Accessible and eloquent, interesting and emotive, U.V. Ray's poems are a true delight to read.
It is obvious that this gentleman has lived his poetry, and it speaks to the reader in a very vibrant way.
The style and flow of the poems are brilliant, and each poem reads like a unique event, playing itself out before the reader's eyes.

If you are a poetry buff, I think you'll enjoy U.V. Ray's succinct mastery of this art.
If you hate poetry, I think this book will quickly change your opinion.
In other words,
"The Blood in My Veins" belongs on your bookshelf!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Blood In My Veins : Revealing & Inspiring, 20 Feb 2006
The Blood In My Veins is a sweet collection of poems that reflects the talent & nature of a kind of poet that you just don´t see around these days.

A collection of romantic writings with a touch of a remarkable sense of humor.

Revealing & inspiring: decidedly a renaissance of poetry.

5.0 out of 5 stars stripping down to the basics, 22 Jun 2006
By Tatiana (Atlanta, GA USA) - See all my reviews
I was overwhelmed with the simplicity and power that this collection of poetry held. Not many poets move me in the way that the frank and eloquent writing of U.V. Ray did.

With his raw and beautiful imagery, he takes you to a place that can be at times uncomfortable
