4.0 out of 5 stars Informative, cheap, handy reference book., 12 Dec 2003
Having learned the Old style first routine of Chen taiji from my teacher, I bought this book as a reference for the silk-reeling exercises, the warm-up exercises and to learn the 18-forms routine (which consists of movements extracted from the Old Style first routine). The book is bi-lingual (English-Chinese) and has lots of clear pictures of master Chen Zhenglei accompanying the instructions. All exercises are explained in detail, as are the movements of the 18-forms. In just a few cases parts of the descriptions of the warm up exercises were not entirely clear to me. But then again, these exercises were new to me. The description of the 18-forms is concise and clear. Each movement is explained in detail and accompanied with a small section called 'Key to the movement'. For people who have already learned some Chen-taiji this is a very informative, handy and cheap booklet that can serve as a good reference book on its own. To people who are new to taiji, I would also recommend the book, but preferably in combination with a video tape on the same matter.
