AN ENTERTAINING ZOMBIE FILM, 2 Nov 2007
While traveling through the English countryside, Edna (Cristina Galbo) picks up hitcher George (Ray Lovelock) as they travel to meet friends nearby. Stopping when a new farming machine that he thinks is disturbing the local environment, Edna persuades him to carry on. When a string of murders and disappearances threaten a nearby town, the local inspector (Arthur Kennedy) believes it's been caused by George and Edna. As they are continually hounded as the culprits of the death, George and Edna try a last-ditch plan to prove their innocence. As they are doing so, the living dead rise from a local cemetery and show themselves as the real culprits. After surviving several attacks, George and Edna hold out in a local mortuary, where the dead attack one last time.
The Good News: When this one came out, everyone was trying to generate the buzz that came from earlier films, and this Spanish film is one of the better ones. The first attack, while being threatening and scary in it's own right, is a complete influence from the opening attack to those movies, and it plays out pretty much the same as well. It's very thrilling, and really gets to you. The film also contains another throw-back to another earlier film in that the subliminal themes undercurrent in the film are present in the film. The cause of resurrection for the zombies is blamed on an environmental problem, and the undercurrents gathered from it are directly responsible. We bump up the gore significantly from the previous films, and it makes it much more interesting to see. There is the usual disemboweling, a couple of amputations, and several giant blood-spurts from other kills involved. There's much more gore in here as well, too much to mention, so it doesn't need it. Also, this is the main cause from all the zombie action in this film, and we get a large amount of it as well. The entire last half-hour is completely full of action, including an entire part taking place inside a morgue. That just ups the action a lot, and it sends the movie out on a high. Which is exactly what is needed in a film like this. Even better, the zombies get a couple of creepy scenes. The first attack is one, and a later sequence about them rising up from the ground is practically dripping with suspense, and it even gets a cheap jump as well that actually works with the way the movie was heading. There is a lot more, but I can't spoil anything else.
The Bad News: The film does have two things I wasn't that impressed with: the zombies, and the detective story. The zombies don't have a large amount of facial distortion to give them their look, and instead just use the standard make-on the face to create the overall look. Later in the film, they look much better, but there still are the other kind as well. They just don't look like how zombies should look. Then, the detective story is pretty preposterous, and it doesn't really gel that well with the rest of the movie. It's creative and such, but it seems weird to the rest of the movie.
The Final Verdict: For all the films that have come along to be in this particular style, this might be one of the better ones. It features a little something for everyone, and is solid all-around entertainment. Zombie fans should look into this one, but all horror fans should take a gander as well.

Italian follow up to Night of the living dead, 9 Jun 2007
This is a very well known film, being marketted under one of its alternative titles. You probably know this as "The Living Dead At The Manchester Morgue", and is Gorge Grau at his best. There are some really good effects in this, and there are some very unexpected moments, too. This film was shot in the UK, by the aforementioned Italian Director, and uses a British cast.
A government experiment to kill off pests and vermin goes wrong and we end up with living dead wandering around. Our hero cannot convince the authorities that this is the case, and he is blamed for the deaths that have taken place by the local cheif constable. Our hero then goes on to sabotage the vermin killing machine, gets caught up in the massacre at the morgue, gets the heroine killed in the process, blamed for it by the fuzz, who then shoot him for the crime.
There's a nice line in acting, some not-half-bad make-up jobs, and a great little line in morals - don't mess around with nature! There's also a very welcome twist in the tale that will get most of the true fans cheering at the end.
Marks out of ten - well if you must have a score, then I'll give it 8. It's definately better than most, and leaves some of these zombie films standing. No true collector should be without it, so get it.

Good film but not Manchester, 7 Sep 2009
I bought this film for my son (don't worry he is 27) who has been a horror film fanatic for many years and this review is largely his thoughts. Firstly then this a mid-budget film with good 'special effects'. I am told it was made by a Spanish film unit which peraps explains why the Manchester Morgue in the title only gets one mention in the entire film. The action takes place in the Lake District of Northen England. Basically a London Shop keeper closes up his shop in an extremely dirty London and escaspes to the Lake Distric where he meets up with a lady and then the Zombie invasion starts. After a recent scientific study we now know the zombies will always win so don't expect any happy ending because there isn't one.
There is plenty of tension and very good special effects as I have written. The acting is good and the story-line pretty standard zombie fare. If you like horror films and zombie stories then you are not going to be disappoined with this film. Of course if you don't keep clear and this film is clearly an 18 rated movie because there is plenty of gore. If you buy it I feel sure it will give you a good evening.
