This review is from: Two Women [DVD] [1960] [Region 1] [US Import] [NTSC] (DVD)

This powerful film has withstood the test of time. It still has a remarkable emotional impact. This is due to fine acting performances by all the cast and outstanding direction, however Sofia Loren's performance, which won her a best actress academy award, remains her best work and stands above the rest.

A warning about this (Madacy) DVD however. The transfer is the worst I have ever seen on a DVD. It makes most VHS tapes look good. The images are fuzzy with low contrast; so bad that the subtitles are difficult to read at times. This fine film deserves to be presented in a watchable transfer. Unfortunately, as this film appears to now be in the public domain, it is only being released by knock-off companies, and not a major studio. If you are desperate to see this film, you can get a sense of it from this DVD, however I have given mine away and am waiting for a decent copy to become available.

This is a fine film. Unfortunately, it has been disgracefully presented on this DVD - I have dozens of off-air recordings on VHS which are better than this.

Utterly impossible to recommend.
