Product Description

Product Description

Kanazawa, the most respected figure in the karate world, offers a systematic approach to basic karate, and provides an intensive training course in the three main areas: kihon (basics), kumite (sparring), and kata (forms). Using meticulously detailed explanations and photos, Kanazawa provides readers with an intensive self-study training course designed to be accessible to beginners and intermediate level. If practised continuously and diligently over the course of a year, a practitioner will be able to attain blackbelt-level proficiency. The author is a close disciple of Gichin Funakoshi, the father of modern karate and founder of the Shotokan school. Kanazawa founded the Shotokan Karate-do International Federation in 1979, after gaining his impressive reputation in Europe as an official trainer for the Japan Karate Association. The Shotokan Karate-do International Federation now has branches in more than 90 countries throughout the world. He is the author of "Karate Fighting Techniques" published by Kodansha. This is the first English translation of the classic work by Funakoshi's living successor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you'd need to know about Shotokan karate, ever!(well nearly.), 10 Sep 2008
The boss!..Kancho Kanazawa's karate is important to him, it is his life. He has studied long and hard, and thought about his art and has come to understand what its all about' and why things are what they are. Many things, that the average student takes for granted while practising their techniques there is reasons for it all. Sadly those reasons are being forgotten, even ignored. Kancho, with his studies in many martial styles and deep studies in Tai-chi has put an almost spiritual feel to his Karate with the incredible detail he puts into his explanations of style and technique. This book is there to skim over to top up your skills, or delve deep into the true art, skills and spirit of Karate. Anything Kanazawa explains, if you have any love of Karate must be studied. This book is an excellent way of doing just that.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Masterclass from the Master of Shotokan Karate , 25 Feb 2007

(REAL NAME)
This book is the first translation into English of Kanazawa Kancho's earlier work "Karate-Rokushukan de tsuyokunaru" It takes the Reader through what could be described as a course of lessons designed to improve both Basic and advanced techniques via a comprehensive narrative and pictorial series of steps. Utilising the talents of Kanazawa Kancho Himself and the Honbu Dojo Instructors of the SKIF, this book will Inform and enthrall any serious student of the Art of Traditional Karate.
