Indispensable Reading for Manga Fanartists, 1 Oct 2001
By A Customer
This is possibly the best of the 'How to draw MANGA' series. Although it does omit basic drawing techniques, it is a fantastic mine of information for anyone who has already acquired a grasp of the basics. It contains numerous tips on character design, and on dealing with situations in which the characters may find themselves. (I made use of the 'Bathtub and Shower scenes' section almost immediately...!) Plus, although this book deals specifically with girls, a lot of this information can be transferred to boys, for anyone specifically interested in drawing bishounen as opposed to bishoujo. Although the translation often results in somewhat erratic English, the diagrams are plentiful, and the meaning is perfectly clear. I thoroughly recommend this book to anyone interested in drawing manga-style - it will greatly enhance your knowledge and your enjoyment of the art. A wonderful resource - top marks.

Very good indeed - if you can draw!, 17 Nov 2001
By A Customer
Wow! This promises pretty gals and it sure delivers! The great thing about this book is that it focuses on so many different aspects of manga girls - normal schoolgirls/nurses and so on, and also fantasy girl/animal hybrids and even a bit of cyborgs and mechas! The only thing that stops me giving this 5 stars is the fact that it doesn't really cover the grass-root basics (presumably this was covered in an earlier book in the series..). Also, the translated text is a little awkward, and, while always relevant, the book could have done with a bit more text, I think. But anyway, a superb book, you won't regret buying this one!

A good all rounder, 28 May 2003
Im gradually buying the entire "How to Draw..." collection and so far i can say that this book is the most used on my account. A wide variety of "girl types" are covered so its possible to cut an paste what you like from the images presented into your own composition. The 'girl' form and how to draw it is explained well but the detail you may wish to add such as a mermaids tail, wings etc is vast but a little sketchy on how. With a little persistance though im sure any budding Manga artist could figure out how to draw them on! There are a few naked images so i would advise to take precaution in buying this for a child or anyone who may be offended.
