Product Description

Product Description

This work presents new ways of inhabiting and experimenting with distribution, materials, textures and light. Innovative solutions to limited spaces are implemented in many different ways and reflect this contemporary lifestyle full of creativity and originality. When it comes to living comfortably in a small house, there are many practical resources available: for example, in new buildings or conversions, it is possible to eliminate rooms that are not essential, such as hallways and corridors, and add the saved space to the main living area. This book offers a selection of original, imaginative projects, representing the current urban living space. Apart from the variety of styles and programmatic requirements, all of them have something in common: the reduction to what is truly necessary from a house, generated through a limited amount of square feet. Unique projects, created by worldwide famous designers, have been selected to reflect the new ways of inhabiting and experimenting with distribution, materials, textures and light. These projects are examples of interior micro-urbanism, of how design can mould a space to make it personal, functional and aesthetically pleasing.

3.0 out of 5 stars A typical coffee table flick through book, 17 Jan 2008
By Jason WD (London) - See all my reviews
In buying this book I was hoping for some inspiration in the art of compact living. Despite the name the a lot of the houses aren't really that small. There are some nice details, mostly from Japanese houses, but nothing totally outstanding.

I would have preferred less houses and more detail. There are a lot of plans, for instance, that seem to be there because the graphic designer wanted them to be there rather than for content; most are illegibly small.
