5.0 out of 5 stars This is an art book essentially, 13 Feb 2009
By Parka (Singapore) - See all my reviews
Length:: 0:33 Mins

This book showcases 80 of the world's most prominent artist and studios. Included glorious pages of art work, biographies and contact information. Unfortunately the writeup is short with an average of 5 paragraphs. There's also translation into another language (I've no idea what) just after the English write up.

The abundant of prints, cartoons, film stills and other screen shots makes this more of an art book resource. Because these animations contained all sorts of genre, the variety of style is great for inspiration. This is not just a study of animation, but a study of medium that can be used on screen.

For the price of an art book, it's well worth the money. The biographies are just goodies.

The hardcover version of the book doesn't come with the DVD though.

1.0 out of 5 stars Hardcover version does NOT come with DVD, 11 Nov 2007
Unless you look closely at the review and spec above you may assume that this Hardcover version comes with the DVD, which it does NOT. Which is VERY annoying!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Digital wonders, 24 Nov 2004
By Robin Benson - See all my reviews
(TOP 100 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)

A must for you folks who work in the animation business. The eighty studios included have from six to eight spreads showing stills, roughs, storyboards and sometimes model sheets. The colour, design and printing are first-class. Most of the studios are American, no surprise there but the rest of the world gets a good showing, England, France, Holland, Brazil, Russia, Australia, Japan, Portugal etc. Having so many countries helps to produce an amazing range of styles.

The several hundred beautiful images in the book are all very well but animation implies movement and this is where the DVD comes in, divided into these sections, Short films, Excerpts, Trailers, TV commercials, Making of and finally a Show Reel, it all adds up to three and a half hours viewing! My favorites are the work of Little Fluffy Clouds and Duck Soup Studios but again the work is from around the world and so really varied.

'Animation Now!' is a super package just as a book but throw in the DVD and it surely is a 'must have' goodie.
