Product Description
Geriatrics in Geneva occupies a central place in the development of geriatrics and gerontology in Switzerland. The enlightened initiative of a few clinicians, together with support from the Department of Health of the Canton of Geneva led not only to the construction of a modern hospital but also to the implementation of a geriatric service in the community; this already at a time when the interest in acutely ill multimorbid elderly patients was very low in academic medicine. This review of the management of ageing examines the University of Geneva experience, covering areas such as comprehensive geriatric assessment in an emergency ward, the epidemiology of falls in a geriatric ward, bone and nutrition in ageing, oral health problems in the elderly, vascular dementia, the challenges of oncogeriatrics, and the WHO Ageing and Health Programme.
