5.0 out of 5 stars A Practical Guide., 9 May 2007
By Mr. Michael HILLKING - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This book is an excellent introduction to selecting, winning and running collaborative research projects - right from choosing partners through the application process to project delivery and operational practice. This is not intended to be yet another book on project management. And it isn't.

The chapter on collaborative project planning is particularly good. Some common errors are explored with suggestions for practical collaborative project planning.

Those with some understanding of legal processes will appreciate the introduction to the special aspects of legal agreements that are required for collaborative projects.

Every collaborative project produces some results. Most project funders and partners want to see these results exploited in some way. The book guides through typical funders' jargon with regard to reporting and planning requirements.

The final chapter deals with wrapping up the project and celebrating success.

This is a book I would recommend to anyone considering embarking on a collaborative project for the first time, or for a potential collaborative project leader who has some experience and is considering pulling his own proposal together to lead a programme of grant-aided research.

5.0 out of 5 stars A really useful guide, 17 Oct 2007
By Jonathan Tenner (UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
An all in one guide to collaborative research projects. It covers what to think about before you start one, the business case, advice on a wide range of issues in relation to the rules and legal issues, together with the practicalities of planning the project (with some great tips for people who have not worked in an academic / industrialist combination before). This book is clearly written, from practical experience and I particularly liked the fact that it also contains advice on keeping the project on track and what to do if things go wrong. I found that there was a lot of information in this book and therefore I would think it is suitable for a range of readers from someone interested in starting a project right through to those who work with them. Given the amount of information conveyed, the style the book is light and energetic which made it a very easy read.
