5.0 out of 5 stars Life-long healthy eating and weight control, 2 Jan 2002
By A Customer
This book was recommended to me to help control sugar cravings and hypoglycaemia (I had no weight to lose so I went straight to Phase II). I find I understand a lot more about my metabolism and how to avoid fluctuating blood sugar levels which left me shaky, nervous and irritable. More importantly, you need never be hungry.

What Montignac says makes such perfect sense, revealing how harmful low calorie diets are to metabolism (i.e. many overweight people actually consume few calories). Reading the beginning of the book is indispensable for a thorough understanding of the principles, and then following it is relatively easy. Reading it inspired me to buy more wholefoods and this is clearly good advice for everyone, not just those who wish to lose weight. His main point seems to be that in the past, people ate more unrefined food, which is why obesity was less of a problem.

I would not hesitate to recommend this book for its common-sense perspective on food and weight. Weight loss is gradual and steady - it is actually a healthy eating plan which you must follow for life - but it is so flexible and allows you to eat so many good things (dark chocolate, red wine, meat, ...) that it is not a gruesome thought like other diets. The variety of foods also seems to ensure that nutritional needs are met, unlike fad diets where you risk malnutrition.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must-read, 18 April 2002
By A Customer
This book is a must-read for everyone, although particularly for people looking for a sensible way to lose or control their weight. Montignac's theory makes absolute sense and uses scientific studies to back it up.
The hardest part is to get your head round the fact that you can eat loads of types of food which you would normally avoid if you were following a 'traditional' low calorie diet - wine, chocolate, cheese etc. You then realise how much of our food nowadays is processed and/or has added sugar or starches.
It takes a little bit of effort to get going and to avoid the refined foods but it's really just a matter of changing your habits and the sooner you do so the better. I've just ordered one of the recipe books for more ideas.
I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in having more energy, maintaining/losing weight and increasing their health overall.

5.0 out of 5 stars At last, a sustainable plan for weight loss and good health, 14 Mar 2001
By A Customer
This book is a breath of fresh air in what has become a stagnant and saturated market. It totally blows apart the institutionalsed theories that weight loss and good health can only be achieved by calorie reduction in our diet.

If the reader can find the time to digest the scientific facts behind Montignacs methods, then the blindingly obvious truth becomes immeadiately transparent - we have been conned for far too long by diet regimes consisting of fat reduction and calorie reduction.

After reading this book, you will realise that by simply eating healthly and ignoring many of our now totally processed foods, we can eat well but lose weight without watching fat and calorie intake. But, above all this is sustainable - the fall back of all other low calorie diets.

Montiganc admirably explains that weight loss can be obtained as a benefit of eating well and not restricting our food consumption. Everyone who is considering going on a diet should read this first. A simple change in the way we eat is all that is needed to reduce our weight and feel good.
