Product Description

Product Description

The role of stage director is all encompassing: storyteller, interpreter, collaborator, people-manager, producer, visual artist, counsellor, literary consultant and creative artist. In this title 12 top international directors, including Deborah Warner, Robert Lepage and Trevor Nunn, reveal insights into contemporary theatre in specially commissioned interviews. Each has contributed unique visual material - sketches, notes and images from the rehearsal process, drawings of the set in progress and images from the final productions.

4.0 out of 5 stars A glossy, highly visual book, 19 Mar 2003
This was an interesting book. It definitely stands apart from other books about directors and directing because it is highly visual, there are loads of photographs throughout of the directors' work. It really depends what you are planning to use this book for. If it's for guidance directing a play or to write an essay on a director's methods, I wouldn't spend the money on it but would get it from a library for reference. If however, you are looking for a visual catalogue of some fantastic pieces of theatre with a brief interview about the methods used by a director, then this is fantastic.
