After spending two wet weeks camping in the Dordogne, we decided to try and find a great hotel by way of compensation.

We found the French version of this guide in Bordeaux and extracted a number of hotels which met our criteria.

The fact that our first attempt at choosing was the beautiful Loire Hotel in Saumur, overlooking the river, was battle proven testament to it's accuracy.

France is at best unusual, and governed by rules and foibles unknown or mis-understood in the rest of Europe and the USA. - If you want to have a no nonsense, factual guide to Frances Hotels and Restaurants then look no further...
