This is the 3rd time in 12yrs of European motoring holidays that I have bought the Michellin Road Atlas to France (the French are always building new Autoroutes !). Its clarity is excellent and the Spiral bound feature means you can easily fold it in half so the navigator doesn't have a massive atlas on their lap for the journey. The "Main Road Map" or "Grands axes routiers" at the beginning is particularly good for planning your route and shows the whole of France on a double page spread with the Autoroutes and Nationales clearly visible.

So why only 4 stars ? - I feel Michellin could reinforce the edges of the pages that are on the spirals as they do have a tendancy to tear out a bit too easily.

Reviewing a Road Atlas is difficult.

Over the last few years the French seem to have built quite a lot of new roads in the North, so an updated version is useful and the Michelin Atlas seems accurate and clear and, if you do hit a bottleneck or fancy a scenic route, it is detailed enough to allow you to plunge onto the minor roads with impunity.

It's a Road Atlas and it covers France - What more do you need of it?
