1.0 out of 5 stars Tries the impossible...and fails miserably, 13 May 2003
It was pure optimism that made me buy this book. I suspected that the subject was too large for a weekend and was proved right. Not only that, but the author appears to have little experience with developing real programs with this or any other language. Don't expect to learn anything about classes or objects (except for simply reading a re-hash of the standard syntax material). The poor database example assumes you have SQL Server 2000 up and running and has the blatent cheek to 'mention' ADO.Net but fail to demonstrate even one line of ADO.Net code let alone supply an object model; the db example uses a wizard to create a datagrid view of the 'Authors' table in 'pubs' - anyone who has ever been paid to write programs knows that wizard generated code is useless except for all but the most trivial apps.
I found myself constantly referring to the much weightier 'Beginning Visual Basic.Net' from Wrox that I borrowed from a colleague. I suggest you get that book rather than this waste of a weekend!
