Product Description

The future of publishing-don't get left behind The ebook business-everyone wants to know more. What does the future hold? Why publish electronically? After deciding to enter the market, how should content be formatted and how should this content be marketed, sold, and protected? These are just some of the questions that this book will address. With information on the types of ebooks and their formats, you will be able to choose what electronic publishing model you want to pursue and the best way to produce ebooks. Once these decisions are made, the book provides marketing strategies and information on the methods of distribution. The economics of epublishing (including Print On Demand) vs. print publishing are discussed and contractual issues-copyright, security, and encryption-are dissected. The future of ebooks is uncertain. But it is clear that the industry needs more information to make decisions on how they will participate. Poor Richard's Creating eBooks will lead the way in educating publishers, authors, booksellers, corporate communication departments, and industry pundits.

4.0 out of 5 stars Essential Guide to E-book Industry, 26 Feb 2002
Poor Richard's Creating E-Books is the comprehensive guide to the e-book industry that publishers, authors and readers have been waiting for - it makes sense of many of the more confusing issues with apparent ease and is an invaluable reference guide to the many different sections of electronic publishing.

Chris Van Buren and Jeff Cogswell have managed to combine detailed technical information on the different formats, handheld devices and digital rights management with advice on dealing with the various publishers and marketing the finished e-book.

The book is divided into five sections:
- Electronic Publishing Overview
- Planning and Creating an E-book
- Getting Your E-book Published
- E-Book Business Issues
- Real-life Success Stories and Future Trends

Each section can be used either as a point of reference or read through in its entirety and the text is peppered with URL addresses where additional information can be found. In addition, the authors have provided extensive appendices, which include an exhaustive list of e-publishers and a number of sample publishing contracts.

Written in a pleasantly informal style, which only occasional borders on patronising, Poor Richard's Creating E-books is an essential guide to the E-book industry. Although the book is principally aimed at authors venturing into e-publishing for the first time, the information is also highly relevant to any publishers looking for a comprehensive overview of the industry.
