Review

It s so refreshing to read the truth for once --Freddie Foreman, Former Underworld Figure and Author of 'Brown Bread Fred'

A startling book from a man who knows. --Ronnie Knight, Former Underworld Figure and Author of 'Blood and Revenge'

A book that pulls no punches! --Charlie Richardson, Former Gangster & Author of 'My Manor'

Product Description

Left Hooks and Dangerous Crooks is an explosive book that takes the reader on a thrilling journey from the birth of bare knuckle and unlicensed boxing to the present day and blows the whistle on the many myths and misrepresentations about the sport that have existed in the past. As the criminal underworld has well known connections with the world of unlicensed boxing, the book also documents the close relationship between boxing and the hidden world of the gangland faces and draws you into their violent, frightening and blood thirsty heart. Author Tel Currie started out as fighter himself and has worked as a boxing promoter. He also moves amongst, and associates with, well known gangland names. Having so many villains and infamous characters as trusted friends means that he has first hand information available at his fingertips and is able to really tell it as it is. No one understands the dark side of boxing better than Tel Currie as this gritty account proves. In this world, not only is fact stranger than fiction, it is often a lot more brutal!

4.0 out of 5 stars Brutally honest and refreshing! Impressive, 6 Nov 2009
By J. P. Bellham "Jesse B" (Northampton) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have read many, many hard men/gangster books, and the reason i brought this book was literally because i have read everything else out there!I am not sure what i was expecting when i purchased the book, but when i seen there was men like Cliff Fields (The true number 1 un-licensed fighter of them all) and less glamerous names, i was intrigued. I like many others have been spoon fed the stories of Lenny Mclean and The Kray twins and Bartley Gorman ruling above all, but after reading the opening chapters surrounding "Who really was the biggest and baddest men", i was bit by bit slapped into a reality that literally leaves you unable to put the book down!. Terry Currie obviously is a man in the know, and although at some points i found his opinions a bit biased, he definately makes you sit up and want to know more and more about these unsung heroes of the un-licensed world of boxing. A refreshing, honest and good read. If you are into the whole Roy Shaw, Lenny Mclean, Vic Dark, Cliff Fields , Jimmy Stockin etc, etc golden age of fighters then this book is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars EXPLOSIVE FROM ROUND ONE ?, 3 Jun 2009
By MIKE GRAY "Robert Nesta" (London, England) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
TEL CURRIE HAS A VERY UNIQUE STYLE OF WRITING WHICH I AM SURE WILL BRING HIM TREMENDOUS SUCCESS IN FUTURE YEARS AS A BRITISH AUTHOR.

"LEFT HOOKS" HAS THE VERY SAME RAW TRUTHFUL STORIES THAT HIS PREVIOUS BEST SELLER HAD "RONNIE BIGGS- THE INSIDE STORY" WRITTEN WITH HIS CLOSE PAL MIKE GRAY,

TEL DELIVERS CHAPTERS THAT KEEP YOU CAPTIVATED AND ALMOST SEND A SHIVER DOWN YOUR SPINE, YES ITS VERY WORRYING, BECAUSE ITS 100% REAL, TOLD BY SOMEONE WHO HAS SEEN IT, BEEN THERE, DONE IT, AND IS CONTINUING TO DO IT, AS A SUCESSFUL AUTHOR.

CONGRATULATIONS TEL ON YET ANOTHER FUTURE BEST SELLER.
