I very much enjoyed this book. Every chapter is packed with fascinating insights, anecdotes and clearly explained concepts which all helped to illustrate the main thrust of the book: that human society is driven not so much by the individuals within it as by the connections between those individuals. Gooding then goes on to suggest how this subtly different understanding of the societal system could be used to find solutions to many of the problems we see today. I was particularly impressed by the way Gooding accessibly presents scientific concepts alongside more philosophical ideas, managing to walk a path between the two, without alienating or favouring either camp. The result is a deeply interesting, eye-opening work of distinction that continues to get me thinking even after the second or third reading.
