Product Description

Synopsis

In the wake of their blissful sojourn in the city of Lamentable Moll, the intrepid sorcerors Bauchelain and Korbal Broach - along with their newly hired manservant, Emancipor Reese - have set out on the wide open seas aboard the sturdy Suncurl. Alas, there's more baggage in the hold than meets the beady eyes of Suncurl's hapless crew, and once on the cursed sea-lane known as Laughter's End - the Red Road in which flows the blood of an Elder God - unseemly terrors are prodded awake, to the understated dismay of all. It is said that it is not the destination that counts, but the journey itself. Such a noble, worthy sentiment. Aye, it is the journey that counts, especially when what counts is horror, murder, mischance and mayhem. For Bauchelain, Korbal Broach and Emancipor Reese, it is of course just one more night on the high seas, on a journey without end - and that counts for a lot.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mainly for Fans and collectors, 5 Jun 2008

I appreciate what JMS is saying, £25 is alot of money for a short novella. But these books are becoming collectors items too and they are not easy to come by. I bought Blood Follows for a whopping £50 and when I received it I thought WTF. I now see copies on sale in excess of £150 so the initial blow has lessened somewhat. All these books are limited editions, I have tried to get these books through Amazon before with no success and I have had to go to a specialist bookshop to get them. This time I have had to settle for an unsigned limited edition(I'll have to wait until he tours the UK again and get his signature), so believe me when I say they are snapped up quickly. So if you do get a copy consider yourself part of an exclusive club.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad but not amazing either, 4 Feb 2008
If you are new to Erikson's novella then they are both different and very similar to his full length novels.
Similar in that almost as much happens (i.e. the sheet volume of stuff going on) in the novella as in the novel.
Different in that the build up and lots of the great narrative is lost.

This is worth reading if you are a real Erikson fan and want your fix whilst you're waiting for the next novel. However, if you were to pick this up as an uninitiated fantasy reader you would probably not be particularly impressed (especially if you paid £25 for it).
