5.0 out of 5 stars How to put the Heart in Business, 12 Jun 2009
There are not many spiritual books I like, there are even less that combine spirituality and business that I would give any time to. Many are over hyped; written with verbose rhetoric (and complicated words) and with little practical information. Happily this book is completely different.

Shilpa Unalkat has written a book that combines spirit and business perfectly. The book is mainly aimed at people that are unhappy with their work generally and more specifically at people that don't really know why they are unhappy at work. It does contain information for employers and business owners that want a more spiritual basis for their company but if I were to point fault at the book it would be that there is so much more to say in this arena that the book doesn't cover. That said it is clear that the author has more to say and perhaps this is an area she will cover in her next book.

That issue aside this book is packed full of useful ideas, practical advice and case studies of how you can use the information. It is written in an easy conversational style making it light reading even when dealing with some quite weighty concepts.

One of my favourite elements of the book is how Shilpa takes mainstay ideas from coaching and motivation such as the Wheel of Life, GROW and Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and adds a spiritual twist to them.

The book is written in two sections. The first called Realisation is about uncovering the real problem. The second, Transformation is centred around dealing with the problem now that you know what it is. Realisation is the more substantial of the two sections taking roughly two thirds of the book.

The book is laced with case studies, examples and has a reflection section at the end of each chapter. Despite being a book about spirituality it is immensely practical. Anyone looking at career change or is unhappy at work will find huge amounts of sound, practical advice from this book. Everyone else will find some great ideas and thought provoke exercises to add a little bit more spirituality to your business.

5.0 out of 5 stars Preventative medicine for those creative souls who are driven to excell., 14 Jun 2009
By Tom Byrne "Fine artist, www.tjbyrne.com" (Paris, France) - See all my reviews

This is a great book and is perfect for this new era we suddenly find ourselves in.

It summarises the way the inner world is now seen by the outer and offers very practical, good advice, without any mumbo jumbo, for managing your life, in a creative manner, without loosing your soul. Especially for those people who are inclined towards overachieving.

At last everyone agrees and can all see, clearly, that the world we live upon, consists of interconnected and interdependent elements, with ourselves among them. With simple searching questions at the end of each chapter plus suggested exercises, this book brings those that have been out of the loop back in and helps those that are in, to find the next steps forward.

A very good book and a pleasure to read.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Masterful Melding of Two Great Disciplines, 24 Jun 2009

I found Shilpa Unalkat's book a treat - it is written in a very personable style without being too 'fluffy' for the business world. It is a book I will certainly reccommend to any of my coaching clients who are in a position of finding their work unfulfilling and feeling there must be more to life.

There are many exercises and case studies to drive home Shilpa's points, and I thoroughly enjoyed her statistics to also back up the 'business reasons' for employing a more spiritual approach. I would love to see some of the concepts explored in greater depth, and as someone who has already escaped that corporate trap, I'd be interested in more for the business owner. Although the book does cover ideas for owners, it is directed more to the employee.
