Product Description

You're itching to start buying things for the new baby. It's so exciting, after all, and you want to be ready when the baby arrives. But it's an expensive business and you can't afford to waste your money. Your friends are full of advice, of course, and lots of it helpful. But you're different people with different lives, and you can't be sure that what works for them will work for you. So how on earth are you supposed to know what you need and what you don't? And if you do need something, how you do you choose which one to buy, when there are so many different types and brands on offer? Buggies, car seats, nappies, clothes, bedding... where do you start? That's where Caroline Cosgrove, a professional personal shopper for baby equipment, and parenting journalist Liat Hughes Joshi step in. Between them, they have tested and tried hundreds of products, and are here to guide you through them all. They have no vested interest, and pass on impartial advice about: What products are available; The pros and cons of each; Which will suit you personally; Which represent good value for money; What not to waste your money on; Tips for twins and eco-friendly choices. What to Buy for Your Baby is a chatty and informative guide which will help you come away with the equipment you want without spending more than you need to.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read it early! , 2 Oct 2008
This book was really useful as an expectant first time mum. It outlines, in a no-nonsense way, what your purchase priorities should be, essential versus non-essential items and some idea of the best brands. A personal shopper and Which? subscription all rolled into one! I'd most definitely say this is a must-read for all first time parents

5.0 out of 5 stars Practical advice for every mum-to-be, 28 Feb 2009
Like most first-time mums I was confused by the overwhelming range of products for new babies. I had no idea about what clothes, pram or car seat to buy or whether items like baby seats and nappy disposal units were really worth the cash.
This book is written by two straight-talking mums who have tried almost every baby product under the sun and tell you what baby products are essential, a nice advantage or a complete waste of cash.
The authors explain the pros and cons of many baby items and give brilliant tips on what to look out for when investing in an expensive purchase such as a cot or buggy.
I followed most of their advice and avoided splurging on any tempting yet unnecessary purchases. Now that my newborn is five weeks old I can say the book hasn't let me down and has saved me a fortune. So I will continue to put my trust in the authors' advice on items needed for older babies when the time comes.

5.0 out of 5 stars I would be lost without it!, 31 Jul 2009
What a fantastic book! It is packed full of practical, impartial advice on which products to buy for your baby and also recommendations on which brands are best. It can be overwhelming trying to work out all the things you need to buy in preparation for the birth of your baby and then as they grow older. My baby is five months old now and I am still referring back to this book. I have made many purchases based on the recommendations given and I have not been disappointed yet. This book will save you time, stress and money. Well worth buying!
