Review

'Children will meet some of the best-known poetry in English in Jackie Morris's The Barefoot Book of Classic Poems. The bright watercolors and intriguing hints of story that Morris splashes across the pages make this an attractive venue for first encounters with the soon-to-be-familiar ... the more than 70 poems have enough range and allure to entice the young and the adults who read to them. Luminaries like Yeats and Poe keep amiable company with Ogden Nash (The Tale of Custard the Dragon) and Alfred Noyes (The Highwayman)' --The New York Times Sunday Book Review

'Wonderful poems come together with breathtaking illustrations in this gorgeous gift book. The words of Sylvia Plath, A.A. Milne and others make this a feast for the eyes and ears, and a collection to be treasured for life. --The Guardian

'This beautifully produced book takes the reader on a journey through life. From the beautiful Morning Song by Sylvia Plath, about the birth of a child, to Shakespeare's reflection on the seven ages in All the World's a Stage, the classic poems celebrate the breadth of human experience, offering glimpses into other worlds. It is a gloriously illustrated volume to share with children of all ages --The Good Book Guide

5.0 out of 5 stars Barefoot book of classic poems, 31 Aug 2007

When I opened this book it fell to the page of my favourite poem...."She walks in beauty" - Lord Byron, from then on I looked on in awe of the beautiful illustrations describing the wonderful poetry.

This is not just for adults, as I have shown and read some of the poetry to the children in school were I work, as they shared this lovely book. Actually ordering more to give as gifts.

5.0 out of 5 stars A gorgeous book for anyone, 6 Dec 2006
This is a beautiful selection of poems NOT just for children but classics for everyone which chart life's events from birth to death, with everything in between. Jackie Morris' illustrations are stunning and magical, and tell the story of the poems literally and wonderfully. I have bought this book for children & an adult who loved it equally. A lovely Christmas gift.
