5.0 out of 5 stars Classic firefighter's book, 4 Jul 2007

Excellent real-life story written by the newscaster that put's you in the thick of the action whether you are a firefighter or joe public, and you can read this time again.

Don't underestimate Ray Chiltern's book either - they compliment each other greatly - buy them both !!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Fire of the 70's, 11 Jun 2007
By Mr. Raymond J. Chilton (Croydon UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
It seems that during each decade there is a fire in London that is synonymous both with the everyday fire service and the period. This was a dangerous and exciting time to be a fireman and Red Watch captures the atmosphere of those times. The wonderful characters and a job that was a lot less complicated, more like our childhood image of a firemans life. What a night, unbelievable examples of heroism and despair. Gordon captures it all; the firegound, the fire station, the people. Not only a great story but more importantly....history.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best books I have read., 2 Jul 2008
If you can read to the end of this book without a lump in your throat, you are a harder person than me.
Absolutely outstanding.
