Product Description
Synopsis
Scaredy Squirrrel is scared of tarantulas, bees and germs not to mention Green Martians, sharks and the Unknown. After all, the Unknown can be a scary place for a squirrel. A timetable brings home the repetetive nature of his days, while a chart of pros and cons encourages readers to weigh up the advantages of security and safety against the tedious monotony of a life lived within narrow confines. Then a marauding bee appears and Scaredy Squirrel is catapulted into the wide world. Even timid young readers will not be surprised to discover that the outside world is nowhere near as terrifying in reality as it was in his imagination. Once outside his comfort zone, Scaredy Squirrel discovers unexpected skills too.

5.0 out of 5 stars a surprising success, 14 Mar 2007

I thought this book, which is very witty and genuinely fresh, might appeal more to adults than to small children but I must say children do like it, perhaps partly because it used that familiar technique of repetition with slight variations throughout. Scaredy Squirrel lives a dull life because he is frightened ever to leave his tree (the reasons why are amusing). One day he does leave, by accident, with startling results, and it changes his life ... well, just a little. He's still pretty timid. In the excellent world of good children's books, this is just that little bit different and very good fun.

5.0 out of 5 stars Filled With Fun, 4 Feb 2007
I recomend this book to anyone who likes children's books. It may be slightley unsuitable for very young children as it has lots of big words in it!

If you want to know why a squirrel has a tin of sardines you have to read it!

I only wish it was longer!

5.0 out of 5 stars A work of genius!, 7 Dec 2006
By Penny Name "Penny" (North London) - See all my reviews
This is a very funny, very clever book, just right for our times! Poor Scaredy is scared of everything and never leaves his nut tree, even though it makes life rather boring. Until one day he is catapulted into the wide world, only to find that the unknown isn't nearly as scary as he thought. As well as being very funny, this is also a very reassuring book for nervous children - and their parents! Hugely recommended and I hope there are more Scaredy stories to come.
