Review

If you need any more proof that Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong are the funniest men in Britain, this is it.
--Maxim, January 2009

Product Description

Meet Mark and Jeremy: two very ordinary weirdos. Mark, a middle-aged man trapped in a twentysomething's body, is the sensible one - a loan manager with seven GCSEs ('back when a GCSE actually meant something') and an unhealthy obsession with the Second World War. His flatmate, Jeremy, is a grade-A, work-shy freeloader with dodgy mates. He dreams of being a world-class musician but can't seem to get out of bed in the morning...They hate themselves, each other and the world. This is their story. Uniquely filmed - shot from the characters' point of view and edited so the viewer hears their unspoken thoughts, as well as the dialogue between them - "Peep Show" has attracted both a cult following and critical acclaim. Now, Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong, the creators of the show, have pulled together and annotated the scripts of all five series and written hilarious extra material to take us even deeper into the minds of our socially inept and wonderfully weird heroes, and their slightly strange friends. A perfect example of British comedy writing at its very best, this book is the perfect present for quirky comedy fans everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Typical scripts collection, with added extras, 14 Feb 2009
By Peter Lee (Manchester ,United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
There are people who enjoy reading scripts, and those who don't, and I fall firmly into the former category, often finding things in a script that I wouldn't find in the finished product - reading the script for "Pulp Fiction" helped me understand the film, for example.

Unlike the superb "Father Ted" scripts book this collection provides printed versions of the finished shooting scripts, and so you won't find excised scenes or be able to spot jokes which were improvised when the cameras began to roll, but as the show is so good anyway you won't be too bothered. Here you will find the scripts for every series to date, plus some extra bits and pieces such as pictures and letters from the characters, along with a lengthy section towards the end in which the writers of the show provide their emailed notes to each other about how a particular script was progressing, and this is interesting if you're interested in the creative process, if not vital.

All in all, if you love the show and like reading scripts this is a great purchase. If you're neither of these, avoid.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant, 30 Dec 2008

If you're a fan of Peep Show you will love this book. Firstly you might be wary of getting this because it's just all the episodes written down and you might as well watch the DVD's. Fair enough, but like DVD's the book has "extras".

Included are things like Mark and Jez's school reports. E-mails from Mark to Sophie post jilting. Mark and Jez's post it notes on the fridge. And various other things that make this book worthwhile.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's Great
Alas not as good as the TV series as there is no sound or pictures, but if your interested in writing a sitcom yourself the intro and the last chapter 'are a must'. Read more
