Product Description

Product Description

A runaway gets more than she bargained for . a walk in the woods takes a sinister turn . a mistress finds that being a wife isn't all that it promised to be . Writing with incisive wit and dry humour, Tracey Sinclair probes the dark heart of everyday life in a collection of stories that strips bare the lies we tell one another and ourselves. Sometimes shocking, sometimes uplifting, always recognisable, these are tales that will stay with you long after you have read them. Tracey Sinclair is a Newcastle-born writer. Having lived in Glasgow for several years, she is currently based in London. She has written non-fiction for a number of publications and websites and her short stories have been published in magazines as diverse as Pulp Net, Printer's Devil and Woman's Weekly. She has also had work included in two anthologies (Northern Arc and The Blue Room) and performed on local radio. Her first novel, Doll, was published in 2005.

5.0 out of 5 stars haunting stories, 14 Nov 2006
I'm not usually a fan of the short story form, but again and again, Tracey Sinclair's No Love is This manages to pack the emotional charge of a much longer work into just a few pages. Many of the stories are told by unknown (and often rather suspect) narrators, and it's the combination of everyday tone and disturbing content that makes them so effective. For example, "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know about Self-Mutilation (But Were Afraid to Ask)" is a perfect little shard of glass of a story. I loved Sinclair's novel Doll, and these are the perfect chaser for those who like their literature dark.

5.0 out of 5 stars Distilled genius, 25 Mar 2006
This book is simply superb, packed with little gems. Each story is short - the longest is just ten pages - but packed full of insight and an exploration of some of the usually unseen emotional lives of people. Much of it is dark, and yet after reading each one I felt somehow stonger and more alive, rather than pulled down by the darkness in us. Some of it is, simply, uplifting; yet not simply, as to be lifted up you must first be down.
I can't explain the effect this book had on me very well; unlike Tracey Sinclair, I'm not that good at finding the words to describe emotions. All I can say is that it is powerful and profoundly moving, feels absolutely 'true', and should be a 'must read' for everyone other than children.
