"'Time Out has the best written city guides.' Sunday Telegraph"

Product Description

A high-speed hop from London, Paris, Amsterdam and Cologne, the city at Europe's crossroads is as distinguished, diverse and distinctive as any continental capital. Home to the Surrealists and the Breughels, this living monument to art nouveau enjoys a gastronomic reputation second to none - complemented by boundless bar crawls and style-conscious shopping sprees. Using local journalists, writers and experts, the Time Out Brussels Guide offers an informed and detailed excursion around the city and its attractions, from the Gothic and Guildhouse past of the Grand Place to Brussels' present-day role as Europe's capital, taking in its beers and its boutiques, its markets and its mussels, and its comics and its chocolates along the way. Beyond Brussels, the guide also delves deep into the three main metropoli of Flanders: fashion-conscious Antwerp, celebrating 2004 as the year of Rubens; medieval Ghent, unsung and underrated; and Bruges, Belgium's biggest tourist draw. Day trips dip each side of the French/Flemish divide, from the coast around Ostend to Liege nestling on the Dutch and German borders.'Time Out has the best written city guides.' Sunday Telegraph

3.0 out of 5 stars A misleading title, 17 Oct 2005
By sonicl (Leafy Surrey, England) - See all my reviews
This is an excellent book if you need a guide to Brussels, but the reference to Antwerp, Ghent and Bruges in the title is rather misleading. All three places are in a section of the book called "Trips out of town", and are not covered in any great detail. The first 200-ish pages of the book cover Brussells, but the section on Antwerp covers 20 pages, while Bruges and Ghent get only 13 pages each.

If it is Bruges you are looking to visit, then you would probably be wise to look for a different guidebook.

4.0 out of 5 stars Time out's Guide to Brussels, 11 May 2003
This guide provides any visitor, with a basic but also comprehensive background.
The guide informs the user about the cities colourful past, history and politics and how they have all planned a part in the way the city has develooped into the 21st century developement it is today.
The guide lets the visitor explore the city's various areas on paper alowing ease of planning prior to visits.
The hotel listings also prove useful for online buying as they provide a non biased opinion on all types of residence from 5 * to youth hostels.
The guide is not just for the young visitor, it is also usefull families as it details all the childrens attractions and most recent prices, along with map referances.

The guide also has well laid out maps that corespsond with the attractions, hotels, retaurants, bars, museums, parks and gardens written about throughout the book.

A colourful book and well worth the money. The series of cities covered by this whole series is vast and can be useful for the business traveller or all types of tourist.
