Product Description

Book Description
Notting Hill, Baker Street, King's Cross, Westminster ... the Circle Line transports us to and from many of London's most famous places, as well as some of its obscure corners (Temple, Euston Road, Aldgate). The 31 chapters of this book, each by a different writer, explore the territory around the Circle Line's stations and the network that connects them. Through fiction, poetry, memoir and reportage, they bring to life the extraordinary spirit of this complex, demanding, inspiring city.

There are 31 original stories about London, with contributions from Simon Armitage (Selected Poems, The White Stuff), Martin Gorst (Measuring Eternity), Ian Marchant (Parallel Lines, In Southern Waters) and John Simmons (My Sister's A Barista, Dark Angels).

From Here to Here is a vibrant exploration of a place rich in stories and history, and teeming with plots and characters. It's the prefect companion for any journey, but especially one underground.

From the Publisher
Written before the tragic bombings of 7 July,
this remarkable collection marks the return
of the eclectic and inspired literary anthology. Launching as part of the London Design Festival, From Here to Here is a unique collaboration which brings together Cyan Books, Platform for Art, London Underground staff, design students from the London College of Communication (part of University of the Arts, London), and members of the writers group ‘26’. The project is dedicated to London and the victims of the 7/7 attacks.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must if you travel on the tube, 19 Oct 2005
By Biggles (London) - See all my reviews
This is a must if you travel on the tube.
This unusual book is one result of a collaboration between design students and writers and the circle line. One piece of writing per station, and what writing. Each station is highly individual, some extraordinarily moving. It was written prior to the 7/7 bombings but some of the content is astonishingly prophetic. A great tube read and definite Christmas present material

4.0 out of 5 stars London as you've never seen it before, 2 Oct 2005
By A Customer
If you are interested in London, the Underground or various styles of writing you'll love this. Simon Armitage's poem about Kings Cross opens the book in a profound way particularly in light of the events of July 7th. But this isn't a book about one aspect of London life. Using the stations on the Circle line as a structure, 26 quite different writers have produced poetry, prose, lists, reportage and generally (with one or two exceptions) some very fine writing about an ever changing and ever fascinating subject. In fact London itself emerges as the real star.

5.0 out of 5 stars Couldn't Put it Down, 25 Oct 2005
By A Customer
Packed with interesting facts such as who is buried in Bunhill Fields and how the EU has reduced the training period for a Thames waterman from five years to two, as well as tidbits of Circle Line history, the book's poems and stories will keep you turning the pages. Elise Valmorbida's multi-faceted story Spirituous and Simon Armitage's poem KX are particularly memorable, but the quality of the writing overall is very high.

B/w photographs by Jessie Simmons, some double page, complement each of the thirty-one contributions. And it's a nicely printed work too, with good wide margins in which the name of each section's stop is printed; it's a treat to the eye as well as a highly recommended read.
