Product Description

Namibia is one of the word's true wildernesses; a land of symmetrical sand dunes and limitless plains, where waterholes support herds of zebra, antelope and elephant, and where you might glimpse the rare black rhino. Here also is the world's oldest desert, Africa's second-largest canyon and the last refuge of the legendary bushmen. Highlights map showing the best sights. Helps you stay ahead of the game in Namibia's national parks. Includes 32 pages of brilliant colour wildlife photography. Adventure tourism for incorrigible adrenaline junkies and relaxed ambiers alike

2.0 out of 5 stars Poor in many ways, 22 May 2006
By PR Baker (London, UK) - See all my reviews

Much of this book is useful. It is, however, badly let down by notable practical omissions (e.g. for exactly where in certain parks you need to buy permits in advance-meaning you arrive without one) and by appaling proofreading. Parts of the background chapter are unreadable due to entire paragraphs being inserted into the middle of other sentences. It reads like a bad cut and paste job. Furthermore, some of the information has not been adapted for a book specifically on Namibia, e.g. the inclusion of animals only found in East Africa. On the other hand, the vast birdlife of Namibia is hardly mentioned. Sadly I would advise buying a different book (eg Lonely Planet or Bradt) even if they are much older. It is a shame that the book has been finished so poorly as much of the information provided is accurate and helpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comprehensive guide to Namibia, 23 Jul 2007
The Footprint has covered Namibia in depth from the popular parks to the off the beaten 4x4 trails. The detailed accommodation reviews were helpful when making a choice of where to stay, and the expansive section on Swakopmund pays the town much more attention than other guides. It also indicates if places are worth going to or not, something other guides do not do, so was very helpful for pre organising an itinerary ahead of visiting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very useful travel companion, 24 Nov 2008

We found this book very helpful on our travels through Namibia. Our friends who live there had arranged our accommodation so we did not need it for that side of things, but it was useful when we arrived in a town as to what was available to see/look out for and some of the history and interesting facts about the place and also the maps so we could find our way round.. The only thing lacking really was photos.
