5.0 out of 5 stars I hate the stuff - but love the book, 19 April 2006
By Alan Sturgess - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
What you might not be expecting is such a well-produced and high quality little hardback. Definitely a cut above the norm.

Personally, I loathe Marmite, but have nevertheless enjoyed this book (I bought it as a present for a friend who would bathe in the stuff if she could). The recipes and ideas are varied and span everything from the truly simple right through to more complex dishes and ideas. It would have been nice if the 'extras' at the back went into a bit more detail about the history and the manufacture of the product - but what's there is interesting as a 'taster'.

If you're really keen on this goo, try searching the internet - there are a lot of fascinating and whacky websites out there.

4.0 out of 5 stars Love it or hate it........, 6 Sep 2007

(TOP 50 REVIEWER)
this is a book about MARMITE!

Board covers, with eye-catching dust-jacket, opening to 80 shiny high quality pages with:-

'52 recipes featuring the store-cupboard essential that everyone loves....or hates....

'Yuck', said Carol Smilie,
'Love it', said Colin Dexter,
'Hate it', said Joan Collins....

Wonderful 'Marmite' illustrations and stories, including classic archive material, fun facts and trivia.'

Rear cover quote from 'The Independent on Sunday':-

'...this could become the most divisive cookbook ever.'

Recipes are clearly laid out with the number of servings, the list of ingredients and a numbered step-by-step method.
Brightly laid out with numerous illustrations but not of the actual recipes featured.

Recipes include:-

Pasta Primavera
Griddled Haddock Jacket with Marmite Cheese Sauce
Boston Baked Beans
Banana and Bacon French Toast
Marmite Garlic Bread
Grange Asparagus Bunch
Tuscan Picnic Loaf
Marmite and Watercress Toasted Soldiers
Prawn and Marmite Sesame Toasts
Manhattan Bagel
Sicilian Scramble
Marmite Corn Fritters
Devilled Kidneys
The Marmite Steam Train

plus sections entitled:-

Marmite - Alternative Uses!
Marmite - A 'potted' History

'Contrary to popular belief, 'Marmite' does have its fans in the US....'

5.0 out of 5 stars Great ideas!, 27 Dec 2003
By M. V. Clarke (Durham, UK) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
For the millions of Marmite lovers out there, this is a must-have book. Loads of new recipes involving the famous spread. These range from the simple (eg Marmite Corn Fritters) to the complicated and exotic (eg Lamb Kofte and Crispy Cabbage, or Panini with Marmite Tapenade, Taleggio and Sweet Peppers). Even those who claim to hate Marmite might be tempted. As an added bonus, there's also a brief history of Marmite as well as some alternative uses.

Not sure if anything will beat the masterful simplicity of Marmite on toast for breakfast though!
