When sailing on our family's Nicholson 31, we have tended to get the sails about right and then stick the kettle on. For me, at least, this book has got me thinking more about sail setting and what speeds we can achieve with only a little more effort.

The book starts by a brief look at the aerodynamics involved when sailing and the accompanying physics. Not the most interesting part of the book but worth reading. Then the author goes on to sail manufacture.

The part of the book I like most was how to set the headsail and the correct use of tell-tails. A couple of sails after reading this section and sailing to windward is more rewarding and less of a chore, believe me!

The final section is on downwind sailing and spinnaker trimming. I'm sorry but I haven't read this yet as we very rarely use our kite!

A good manual that I am sure will be returned to, lent to crew members, many times over the years. Buy.
