Product Description

Product Description

While serving in the submarine Dreadnought in 1977, Alexander (Danny) Godfrey was sent to the Falklands as the 'cutting edge' of a covert task force deployed by the government of Jim Callaghan, the outcome of which forms the basis of one chapter of this book.

From the Author

In writing this book it was my intention to give prominence to and re-focus interst on the whole issue of the South Atlantic in particular:

(i) The very real possibility of military humiliation and loss of sovereignty of the islands.

(ii) I wanted to question the whole issue of the Falkland oil reserve - why with all our experience in the North Sea are we not now seriously building tankers in shipyards desperate for work to bring home revenues our economy desperately needs.

(iii) For what it is worth I have offered my own long-term solution to the sovereignty issue of the Falklands with a possible Tripartite government in a purpose built Falkland Parliament with guarantees that will never remove the governing body from the islands - whoever the 'majority' party might be.

(iv) The powered glider I describe is very much a technical possibility that would truly offer the ever increasingly important SAS role as an intrinsic instrument of both domestic and foreign policy a high tech solution to intelligence gathering. While I should add simultaneously exploiting a niché in the growing military market for pilotless aircraft with a piloted alternative offering a protracted endurance 'time over target' to monitor live coverage for military, un sponsored or indeed civilian purposes.

(v) Not least of my motives was to restate our obligation to Belize - the star of the show.

5.0 out of 5 stars Belize Experiment !!, 20 Aug 2005
I found the Belize Experiment to be compulsive reading. Both the storyline and the characters were completely believable. On reaching the end I went back to the beginning and read it again! I would like to know what reaction (if any) our current politicians and defence staff would have to the book.
As novels go the Belize Experiment is a bit brief - my only critism of it - but very very readable. It raises a number of issues concerning the UK's ability to defend its own interest and in particular its own oil interest of the South Atlantic - if it ever finishes paying for the privaledge of defending US oil interest in Iraq. This is a thought provoking read and a standard bearer for the patriot.
