The collective collection of the Epic seen earlier this year in Judge Dredd's Uk Comic 2000AD (well worth a read for those new to Dredd) Judge Dredd / Aliens: Incubus is a another fantasy crossover in the same vein as Judge Dredd Vs Predator and Judge Dredd Vs Batman, that Vein being "Something you think wouldnt work, comes off very good"

The plot is thus: Citizens are staging a protest rally against the new power tower. Caught in a resulting traffic jam, "Jimmy" panics, desperate to get to a hospital and runs through the jam. He's spotted by Carlos Lenning, "notorious anti-judicial activist" who pursues, guns blazing, and eventually taking out Jimmy's knee. "Where are they, Jimmy?" - but Jimmy's already been exposed to a hugger, and before he can learn where the others are, the gun-toting Lenning is gunned down by Dredd.
Fellow judge Sanchez and Dredd take Jimmy to the hospital, but it's too late - he starts convulsing, and an alien tears through his ribcage, this begins the nightmare scenario of Judge Dredd / Aliens: Incubus

I wont spoil the rest of the story but the case continues as Dredd battles the Aliens in the Hospital and later in a epic attack on the Grand Hall of Justice (a gun blazing fight sequence worth buying the collection for) and Dredd hunting the instigator of this chaos in a satisfying conclusion

My only gripe with this graphic novel is the way Dredd seems to always be in charge of the situation (is he really indestructible?) regardless this is a fantastic epic and a great item for any Dreddhead or sci-fi fan alike

THE STORY:
The mutant terrorist Mr. Bones plots to unleash the spawn of an Alien hive against the hated Judges, but his plans are revealed to Dredd and the others when two of the creatures are released early. Dredd, the Judges and a Mega-City Verminator team must root out the infestation before the city is destroyed.

WHAT'S GOOD:
This story, I was pleasantly surprised to find, is not just another 'the Aliens get loose in so-and-so's environment and havoc ensues', but rather has a small outbreak which Dredd and his fellow Judges have to track down and investigate. It's not until much later that the Aliens get loose and havoc ensues! Another clever element here involves Dredd's relationship to Sanchez, a rookie Judge who lets fear control her. The two of them interact well and it gives Dredd a rare opportunity to use his nicer people skills. Mr. Bones is a good (if somewhat prefabricated) villain whose acid-scarred visage is suitably evil-looking. It's amusingly revealed that Bones' original mutation is, rather than physical, a psychological predisposition to doing evil - pure 2000AD genius. The art is of a high quality, the inclusion of the Verminators expands the cast of heroes beyond just the Judges and the battle against the Aliens in Justice Central is stunning.

WHAT'S BAD:
The Aliens seem slightly superfluous and you get the feeling that they could have been replaced with any terror weapon without taking much away from the story. This says a lot for the story, but not very much for the use of the Aliens licence. Other than that, there's nothing too wrong with this one.

Get ready to see countless Judges die in acid-drenched agony and thousands of Aliens snuff it courtesy of Mega-City One's legal protectors! Brilliant!
