Review
'Adventurous, enigmatic, tense and nerve-racking - like LOST, but better' Graham Marks Praise for Attica: 'This book is reminiscent of Narnia with its alternative, magical world. A fantastic read that will have imaginations working overtime.' The Bookseller. 'An excellent book, good and original and, in all the best ways, strange.' Neil Gaiman

Product Description
April 29th:Krantu is a good way off the coast of Sarawak, a Malaysian island. No one lives on Krantu anymore and it'll soon sink into the sea. May 2nd:This is just like when I went on digs. Dad is up to his eyeballs in work. June 4th: He put the edges of the scrolls near to each other. What happened next made me jump backwards, my heart pounding. July 5th: I'm not sure what happened. The bright beam of the torch was shining directly into a huge pair of eyes ...Whatever had been caught in my torch beam had crashed through the flimsy wall of the shed and stampeded into the rainforest beyond it. At first, Max's diary seems like any other entry on a teenager's blog but closer reading reveals an incredible adventure story. As the reader absorbs the strange events that unfold, Max and those around him are drawn deeper and deeper into danger. Surrounded by spies and pirates, Max makes a terrible discovery - a secret that could change the world for ever ...

4.0 out of 5 stars Lost meets Jurassic Park (without the dinosaurs) with a touch of the Mosquito Coast, 27 Jun 2009

(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This is a very entertaining read in the style of a diary blog. The setting is a remote jungle island where two brothers and their archeologist father are spending the summer. Max is the main teenage character of this story along with his adopted brother Hass and Georgia, a girl who arrives on the island via her jeweller father's yacht. There is a great deal of tension between the teenagers with the brothers vying for their secretive, workaholic fathers' approval and beautiful Georgia's attention.
This very human plot line is set against some mysterious and fantastical happenings on the island. The gripping story develops well and leaves a lot of room for the imagination with a tension filled 'Lost' style plot. The secretive work the father is doing is slowly revealed with some great surprises (although not quite 5 star material for me, as I thought it was blindingly obvious what the end suprise/shock would be).
This is a gripping, highly imaginative story with strong characters and an action filled plot.
Recommended for teenagers.
