Product Description

Product Description

It is a common perception that all is not well with the world - and in particular with the USA. It is not that George W Bush is crazy. Even if he is, the advisers around him are sophisticated enough. Like the Reagan and Clinton administrations before them, they are trying to solve a problem. Industrial profits are declining. In the US, this has produced unemployment, privatisation of public services and recession and their answer has been globalisation and war. For the poorer countries of the world, the consequences of this policy have been devastating. This powerful and immensely readable book shows that American policy that is aimed at solving domestic problems has enormous consequences for the rest of the world.

4.0 out of 5 stars Highly readable, though beware of bias, 11 May 2006
By Simon Slipton (Nottingham, UK) - See all my reviews
This was a thoroughly enjoyable and exciting read from beginning to end and is ideal for someone looking for more in-depth focus on the workings of the American elite.

However as the title suggests the book is very heavily liberal, and those whose politics leans in any way to the right would most likely be unimpressed. In particular Neale's analysis of Reagan's "War on Drugs" will be fascinating reading for students and liberals, but nothing short of repulsive for conservatives. But that, it seems, is what Neale intends.
